In the southern part of the Mostecka basin, on the banks of the Ohre river, near the Nechranice waterwork, in the foothills of the Doupovske mountains. The second largest town in the district after Louny. The place above the river was already inhabited in the early Iron Age, in 1265 king Premysl Otakar II grants to Zatec the town privileges. Later an important seat of the Hussites, now a city conservation reserve with many valuable objects. A well-known hop and brewing area since the Middle Ages.
